The Five Faces of Oppresion vs Power (The Milgram Experiment)

Five Face of Oppression, oppresion is a nation under cruel and oppressive government. Oppression focuses on taking the voice away from a person. The ruling of groups is when opression would most likely occur. According to Iris Young there are 5 different types of Opperation.
Exploitation is when people were being used to make money but in return they didnt recieve a well known treatment. The people put lots of efftorts into it, but they were making more moey for the companies while they didn't make much. Marginalization is on the lo Cultural Imperialism is when taking another cultures norm and establishing it into another culture. It explains how society has built on there culture, ad what it does to take it to a certain level. For example the article states "America does not ahve an official language", oddly enough that is true because America has a mixture of languages surrounding us like spanish, chinese, german, etc...Violence shows that people live in fear, unprovoked attacks to others. Viloence is intended to destroy the inner self of a person. Many people in American Society are affected by this.
In 1961 Stanley Milgram created a test, it consisted of a patient that would get electrically shocked up to 450 volts. The paitents were volunteers, when got there they were told that they would be part of a different test that they were supposedly going in for. The experiment was going to be based on memory and the punishment would be recieving elctric shock. The purpose was to see how the person would learn. The teacher would give the other client (seating in the chair connected to the wire of volts) questions. If the client answered the questions wrong the teacher was forced to increase the lithinal shock. The point of the experiment was to see if the teacher will stop the test or if they will continue to follow the orders of the professor, the teacher's believed they were advancing in science. Some of the teacher's were able to continue, some felt remorse, other's just continued without even thinking. One of the teacher's ignored and continued the process knowing that in the back the client was in pain. 9/12 people had gone up to 450 volts with there client, the teacher's believed that the wouldn't hurt the client as much. 1/12, teacher Phillp couldn't continue with the test , because he knew it wasn't right and that he wa shis choice.

Social Control

Social Control bascially is saying the individual actions of socitey. The article states" No state can exist without police force", this is true, because this world wouldn't be stable there would be a high amonut of crime rates most likely increasing everday. In other words being out volience in our society is used to control everything. Having a society that is under control in order could help benenift our society. Other types of social controls that were mentioned in the article were ridicule, opprobrium persuasion, gossip etc... Social Control doesnt only just helps out economically but help human beings out in their everday likfe. It all in the end comes to show that our society(world) is shaped by norms.
